The Dipylon
The Geometric painters could not leave a surface alone: every gap between the figures was packed until no empty space survived.
Figures are laid into their registers, and then the component measures what space is left and closes it — largest motif first, down to single dots wedged between the legs. Give it more room and it grows denser, never sparser. Nothing is traced; every mark is derived, so no two friezes on a site are the same.

Budget
- One per page. It is the loudest thing in the drop and a second one is a museum gift shop.
- Never behind body copy. It is a frieze, not a background.
- Not on the same page as a meander — the border strips are already meander, and the page would be arguing with itself.
Restraint is the aesthetic, and it does not survive being applied generously. These limits are the specification, not advice.
